The park has only been publicly accessible since 2015 when a new road was constructed allowing public thoroughfare of Milo Station. Located in the arid Mulga lands of outback Queensland, it's around an 1100km drive west of Brisbane.

Hell Hole Gorge National Park is 69km north-west of Adavale (256km north-west of Charleville, 189km north of Quilpie) via unsealed roads. Head from Adavale towards Blackall, taking the Milo-Gooyea Road at the crossroads and following the signs to the park. Roads within the park follow old seismic lines and boundary fences.

Hell Hole Gorge National Park is located approx. 180km North of Quilpie via Adavale. From Quilpie there are 2 roads to Adavale: RED ROAD: Approx. 98km from Quilpie to Adavale. This road is mostly sealed with a 7km unsealed section. To access this road head east from Quilpie along the Charleville Road for 13km then turn left onto the Red Road.

Hell Hole Gorge National Park lies about 70km West of Adavale. In turn Adavale is 120km North of Quilpie and 250km South of Blackall. See the map at the end of this article for more details. So Hell Hole Gorge is pretty remote. In fact it has only recently been opened to the public.

Mar 2022. This turned out to be one of the less interesting cenotes in the area. About 3kms down a gravel road, then about a 300 metre walk down a sandy track. Water fills the bottom, but it's not nice clear blue water like the blue lake. Maybe we'd just seen too many similar natural phenomena and this one was the step too far.
